7 Stones
Public Intervention, Santa Brigida, La Pigna, San Remo, 2010
In the historic neighborhood of La Pigna, San Remo, a community of immigrants seeking refuge in Italy lived in social isolation, disconnected from the vibrant, touristic center of the city. As part of a week-long residency with Cittadellarte-Fondazione Pistoletto, I sought to bridge this gap through an interactive and inclusive public intervention.
Inspired by the traditional Palestinian game 7 Stones, I organized a day of games where I introduced and taught the rules of the game to the local residents, visitors, and children. Together, we transformed the streets of Santa Brigida into a vibrant space of connection and play. A memorable moment, captured in a video, shows children, passersby, artists, and locals enthusiastically participating in the game, breaking barriers through laughter and shared engagement.
This joyful event not only brought a sense of belonging and fun to the neighborhood but also highlighted the potential of culturally rooted activities to create bonds across diverse groups. Through 7 Stones, art became a bridge—connecting communities, celebrating heritage, and fostering inclusion in the heart of La Pigna.
