Watercolor messages
"I want to create these colorful paintings as greetings, as mantras for joy. I want to paint the world around me as I wish to see it, reminiscent of the colors and motifs I remember from the 1980s in Asira.
These ongoing watercolor paintings draw inspiration from the vibrant and joyful aesthetics of my village, Asira, near Nablus, Palestine, during the 1980s. Many of these paintings celebrate various occasions and festivities as greetings, where rural appreciation for beauty and unpretentious design are intertwined.
The artwork reflects a unique blend of Islamic, Arabic, and Christian influences, unintended, capturing the rich and colorful tastes my generation enjoyed until the 1980s, particularly as they revealed themselves in the rural theaters of wedding celebrations.
Each painting carries a greeting message and employs a miniature style, reminiscent of the rich, detailed art forms that characterize our rural visual traditions
