Exhibition in progress حلوات البلد
The portrait paintings, theater designs and archive building will borrow the aesthetics of the wedding celebrations during the 1980s to construct a visual representation of the rural in Asira Al-Shamaliya, Palestine. Through theater designs , portraits Painting, archive building , and photography staging, the site-specific exhibition and collateral events in Asira will reveal and bring the cultural, social and aesthetics experience of the rural into the representational system.
Based on collecting wedding photos from the 1980s, interviewing ten couples, building painting portraits of the participants, and designing wedding theaters, the project investigates ,collaboratively, the emerging forces that dictate women's picture circulation. Men and women sitting on the decorated stages offer a critical and aesthetic investigation for a rural portraiture art.
To produce a portraiture exhibition in Asira, the exhibition suggests a position for those rural individuals, men, and women, in the scheme of portraiture art. This project intends to generate pictures of men and women from the village and offers subjective depictions beyond the presiding politics of representation. In its formal and pictorial quest, the project studies picture devices and opens the field to propose its pictorial language. By collecting family albums and video cassettes and constructing the pictures of women and men in painting and in edited photo and video material the final outcomes will contribute to a rural pictorial field that has not been realized yet. One of the strategies to create this field is to apply image making devices and focus on portraiture and the position that those people could possess as ideals.
